Take Responsibility and Be Rewarded With a Wonderful Friend

Pinkilee was dumped off pregnant in a new housing development. We were told later she had her kittens in a neighbor's bathtub in their partially built house. Her kittens were taken from her very early. She was chased out and too refuge in the house under construction next door, our house. Kind Hispanic workers gave her an occasional can of tuna, but she was clearly starving and in very rough shape. We came weekly to see the progress on our house and met her hiding between floors in a structure designed to hold the bathtub. For three weeks we saw her and always commented on how sad and thin she was. The third week my husband coaxed her out and she allowed him to pet her. We decided she was a stray, had no one and was suffering. She allowed me to pick her up and wrap her in my coat. Amazingly, she rode quietly 35 miles in my lap to our vet. The plan was to have her checked out and find a no kill shelter. There was no room for another cat in the 950 square foot temporary apartment. We had our dear, old, Gummi and a new adoptee, Mosby. This space was just not good for taking on another cat. She was full of hook worms, but her blood tests were OK. As I paid the bill, I asked the vet tech if she could recommend a shelter for the cat. She replied,Do you mean, Pinkilee ?. I looked at my husband as he beamed with pride at his new cat with the pink nose and pads. He had proudly named her Pinkilee. Her name is a version of the name Pinky Lee, a fifties Saturday morning star on a children's program. He said she was "a pinky lee", because she has bright pink pads and nose and is a dilute tattersall with a pinkish hue. I am happy to report, Mz Lee now owns that huge house she took refuge in and has two people to do her bidding. Gummi and Mosby are gone. Pinkilee always wanted to bean only cat, but has a young friend named Woody. Two years ago Woody's mom knocked on our door with a four kitty cat Easter present. All the kitties and mom were placed in good homes and Woody somehow stayed with us. I think of him as her fitness trainer! He is devoted to Pinkilee and is keeping her young and exercised.
