Serendipity

As I drove from the very rural Scottish cat shelter with my 15 month-old rescue cat in his cat box, I was mulling over what I should call him. I live near the beach...and I have big skies that let me watch the weather coming and see the ships and tides going up and down the Firth of Forth...so I thought something maritime /weather / seaside-related might be right for my beautiful new cat. He wasn't too keen on being on the car, however, and he was meowing away...with a kind of trill and yodel in the middle of the meow sound, so it almost sounded like he was singing. So I turned on the radio to see if he would find it calming and the song that was playing was Otis Redding's 'Dock of the Bay'- a song I have always loved - and it just seemed like the perfect association of a sea/maritime theme and the cat singing...so I have called my new feline friend Otis.
