Crazy Girl Scalona.

I had returned home after my failed attempt at my freshman year of college away from home due to medical reasons(it happens) and was feeling pretty down. My Dad decided since I inherited my love of felines from my Grandmother that it would be okay if I decided to adopt a cat. He drove me to the pound to pick one out. We found this gorgeous grey one (with a little bit of orange once you get up close) and Dad fell in love. He asked the volunteer if she could pull this cat out of the cage, and once he kissed her head I knew that we'd be getting her.

When we got this cat her paperwork said she was a domestic short hair grey tiger lily breed, so I wanted to call her Lily, but Dad hated that name. I struggled with names a bit, as he shot down every single one. Meanwhile, this cat, actually, 5 month old kitten, was being an complete nuisance. She tricked me though. We had to get her spayed before we brought her home, so she was pretty sweet the first day. She walked up to me and meowed ever so sweet so I'd pick her up and cuddle her. Then she healed.

My Dad was getting pretty serious with his new girlfriend when I got my cat. (As to how serious, she is now his wife). She was from Poland, so I thought maybe he'd like if I gave the cat a Polish name. I asked a friend back at my old college (who was also from Poland) what the word was for "crazy". Because this cat was definitely a handful. I guess she tried to warn us by destroying her cage 2 times while we were at the pound. My friend reported that it was "scaloney", but "scalona" for a girl. Perfect.

I went to my Dad and said triumphantly, "This cat is Scalona. Means 'crazy girl' in Polish". My dad agreed that it was fitting, and his girlfriend laughed wholeheartedly at the name.

In the 5 years since she had done nothing but lived up to that name. My little crazy girl. It is a bit of a mouthful though. We call her "Sca" for short.
