I was already a fan of the name Oscar. It's one of those "human" names that is doesn't seem to suit anyone very well. Maybe a jolly, portly, unthreatening older man could pull it off. My cat is essentially the cat version of that sort of human. He's also rambunctious and goofy. The same day I first met the kitten that would become Oskar (my parents owned his mother and had been taking care of him and his litter mates since birth, while I was at school), I watched the Swedish film "Let the Right One In." The subtitles (or the opening credits - can't recall) flashed the name "Oskar." I thought that spelling seemed more masculine, so I went with it. I think it was a great choice.
