I really don't know how he got the name Leonardo Di Fishy, a friend gave him to me when my beautiful Persian Samson passed away. Leonardo had been savagely abused by his owners and someone mentioned this kitty's condition to a friend who knew my love of Persians and also knew of Samson's passing. The friend called me asking if I wanted a new Persian kitty but she didn't disclose the circumstances. Leonardo was brought to me that weekend. He was so frightened. Three days after he was brought to me he tried to run away but upon managing to excape he realized that the surroundings weren't familiar and he tried to make his way back inside but he accidentally wound up on the balcony of the apartment next door. When I came home from work that day I looked everywhere trying to find him, and I finally looked out over my balcony, then I noticed this little fluffy mass huddled in the corner of the balcony next door. Fortunately the apartment next door was vacant and I had a master key, so I brought him back home to my apartment and gave him some treats and all was well. Within a week his health suddenly declined so much he had to be hospitalized for renal failure due to the abuse he had sustained. We got him stablized and I brought him back home and he knew then that he was really home and that he was loved and safe at last. Calling him by this long name just wasn't working so I nick named him FISHY. I had Fishy for 10 more very happy years. He was the center of my life until he succummed to renal failure. My favorite memory of him..About once or twice a month I would broil a steak for dinner and I would always cut off about 1/4th of the steak and cut it into kitty bite sized pieces for him. He thought he was in heaven whenever he got STEAK. He would come and sit next to me, fold his paws and patiently wait for me to give him his share of a steak. One day I was making dinner, including a very nice T-bone steak and had everything ready to serve when the phone rang. I turned to answer the phone, spoke for only about 30 seconds and when I turned back around to to pick up my dinner and take it to the table...the steak was missing! I eventually found the furry little thief huddled behind a chair in the living room and wrapped around the steak as if his life depended on it...it was his trophy. I let him hold onto it for a while but after I managed to get it away from him, I cut it up into little bite sized pieces and gave it to him as a special treat for the next few days.
When Leonardo Di Fishy passed away, I didn't think I would ever be whole again. The next day I joined a Persian rescue group on Yahoo in his memory. The very first email I received from them, they were looking for a new foster home for a Persian cat that had been abandoned. I replied that I would gladly foster the kitty. I arrived to pick up the kitty from the woman who had rescued her.. She is the most beautiful pure white Persian and so sweet! She ran directly up to me and rolled over on her back purring so loudly.. As we drove home I had to stop at the vet's to pick up FISSY's remains.. and Bianca Angelica (White Angel) was microchipped and she has been with me ever since. She has FISHY's eyes and ears and so much of his personality..but she doesn't like any people food at all
