We adopted Alyx from our local shelter. She was found at only 3 weeks old, abandoned and thrown in a dumpster. The lady that brought her in claimed that there were kids with paintball guns who were going to shoot her. Thankfully she was rescued and brought to the shelter. She was terrified of people and it took the shelter a couple of weeks to get her to trust them. My husband had gone in to post some pictures of our cat Lola, who had recently gone missing. Alyx was being brought in when he was there. As soon as he heard her story, he instantly knew that she belonged to us. We've had her for 7 months and recently discovered that she is actually a Turkish Van, a rare breed in North America and reveered in Turkey as having "the thumbprint of God" for their specific colour markings. There is a local legend telling that God blessed the Van cat by putting His right hand on it as the cat left Noah's Ark.
I guess some people's trash really can be someone else's treaure <3
